An economist, Dr. Jatar is also the President and founder of Venezuelan Women in Action, an NGO dedicated to defending women’s rights in Venezuela. Previously to this, Dr. Jatar was a fellow at the Center for International Development and communications director at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, both entities at Harvard Kennedy School. Before that she was a visiting scholar at the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, and a Senior Fellow at the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington DC, the premier U.S. center for policy analysis and exchange on Western Hemisphere affairs.

Dr. Jatar received her MBA from York University in Toronto, Canada and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, U.K. She was also a Professor at Venezuela’s leading Graduate School of Business (1986-92). She served as Venezuela’s first head of the anti-trust agency from 1992 to 1994. She has also written extensively on regulatory and antitrust issues and has advised top multinational corporations on competition issues in Latin America. Dr. Jatar writes and speaks widely on hemispheric issues and is regularly interviewed on radio and television.
